Bio:

Leela is currently one of our most memorable Spotted-tail quoll juveniles, and not just because of her unique look.

Leela was born in the wild to one of our wild-captured mums “Iris” (who has since been released back to where she was found). When she was still in mum’s pouch, during one of our standard health checks, we noticed that young Leela was much smaller than her siblings and only one eye had opened. Due to her very young and fragile state, as well as genetic importance, a decision was made to hand-raise her, as there was a strong possibility she would not survive if left with mum. It was a long and difficult journey for both Leela and human mum Sarah, but even though the eye never opened, she pulled through. She has been checked over by vets, they have given her the all clear.

As Leela has been around many different humans since she was very young, she has become a very confident and cheeky young lady, often showing off on tour.

As a wild-born quoll, her genes are very important to the Tasmanian Quoll Conservation Program, and she became a first-time mum in 2024, successfully raising 5 healthy joeys, sired by the very handsome Waratah.
